Karen is most grateful to the Donegal Local Enterprise Office who assisted her small business getting online. This has been a lifeline for her to stay connected with her clients and indeed to grow her client base.
The website was developed by Aidan Spence, who is a wealth of information. Her daily blog and YouTube channel share tips and videos of recipes and ideas. She actually thinks she has joined the world of the pop stars having a YouTube channel now!
Anyone can subscribe to the Slim R Us newsletter by just going on her website and filling out the form.

Karen trained and remains a Registered General nurse at Belfast City Hospital in 1983. It is this nursing background and skills that adds a further dimension to her passion to help her clients, with many suffering from various medical conditions.
Indeed Karen herself, is an advertisement of how successful weight loss can be achieved with an amazng loss of over 9 stone. As she often says herself, she loves her food so much! She just had to change how she thought about it!
Karen has some simple views of weight loss, having suffered with weight issues all her life. There is no one size fits all. Everyone is different and their life does not change because they join Slim R Us. Rather, it is about making Slim R Us fit their life. Slim R Us is about a healthy and balanced diet. It is normal everyday family food. Karen strongly believes in moderation and still being able to enjoy those special occasions, birthdays, family events and holidays without the constant obsessive worrying about food.
Karen has been there! Over 20 stone and understands more than most, the psychological impact that has on anyone. Deep down, we all want to have a wonderful figure and there is a lot of hurt there for people who struggle with their weight.
Every client is treated with dignity and respect and Karen knows the bond of friendship that develops between them, is a huge part of that step to a healthier and happier lifestyle. Confidentiality is key to the trust between them.
Covid 19 lockdown impacted Slim R Us, as all businesses had to shut down. But she kept her normal daily contact with all her clients by text and emails. There were zoom classes and some funny cookery video demos. A very active Facebook page with daily posts and blogs kept most people either very well entertained, or at the very least more conscious of what they were eating.
Clients may choose to join online and also attend the in house consultations.
With Covid restrictions still in place, the Letterkenny Slim R Us office is where consultations take place. These are pre-booked with each client seen on an individual basis and 15 minutes apart to allow for sanitisation of the room as each client leaves. Each client is temperature checked, asked to wear a face covering and asked some basic Covid questions regarding symptoms. It is €6.50 per visit or an online membership of €30 per month, which includes weekly visits and the full online service.
Clients can book a video conference with Karen or indeed an in house private consultation. These are in depth and last around 40 – 45 minutes. All of these can be booked online.
Karen is a great believer in supporting local business and often references local shops, farmers and small enterprises when she is doing her demos. Local charities such as the Women’s Centre in Letterkenny and Cancer services have enjoyed her support. As Chairperson of the Little Angels Association since 2016, she has devoted a lot of time to the charitable organisation which founded the Little Angels School and hostel in Letterkenny raising much needed fundraising for the Charity.
