She has taken to the roads on her bike during lock down! I would love to have seen that!
Director of Kee’s Hotel in Stranorlar, Vicky Kee has taken up quite a few hobbies such as cycling around Stranorlar, especially Drumboe woods enjoying social distant chats along the way!
I asked her what she has been doing for the past 10 weeks, ‘Helping to keep up the local spirit is very important to me and I have personally felt this more than ever over the last few months in lockdown. Even though we did not see anyone, we all knew we were protecting each other from a distance along this difficult journey of covid-19 and the new norm that is to follow.
I decided to take up some gardening, needs must! It is great news that the garden centres are now open again. I am looking forward to getting up our signature window boxes and this will be the first year that I will be doing them myself. I am so proud to see this practice adopted by so many other hotels and businesses throughout the country, brightening our towns and villages.
I have also started a Social Media course keeping myself up to date with all new practices in the business and hospitality world. Thank God I did, little did I know then how important a zoom meeting would be, isn’t that right Team!!
It was so strange from March this year to have no Mother’s day celebrations, Communions, Confirmations, or Weddings. Family occasions were all booked out but had to be cancelled because of covid-19. I am now fully focused, and all powered up on our opening in early July. Social distancing will be part of our future and I know we will respect it and get used to it.
We will be following all our social distancing guidelines without losing any of the character or atmosphere for which Kee’s Hotel is renowned for. We look forward to hosting family occasions and events and will be following the government guidelines for the safest method for re-opening the hotel.
Kee’s hotel is 175 years in business this year. With over a century worth of experience behind us we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the hotel (with social distancing of course) and following all government guidelines.
I feel we are very lucky at the hotel, due to the particular layout makes social distancing relatively easy to achieve and it will become the new norm. We have plenty of different spaces which will make our guests feel comfortable while feeling safe.
Since the lockdown in March I’ve missed all my great customers and characters and my team, so much.
Having lost my dear farther Arthur last year it has been a difficult time for me personally, but very close family and friends carried me through that time. During the covid-19 pandemic with the hotel being closed, I have realised how much I enjoy and love the hospitality industry and how lucky and honoured we all are to live in this beautiful county with everything it has to offer.
I will carry on the proud tradition of the hotel, keeping the new norm and take the business into the 21st Century where the welcome to every guest will and always has been a big Cead Mile Failte. We look forward to welcoming you on your return.
I would like to a huge thank you to all our fabulous health workers, Pharmacy staff, grocery store staff and all front-line workers and government, who from the beginning of this lockdown have worked tirelessly and cheerfully to supply us with wonderful support over the last challenging months, she concluded.
