NW Breast Cancer Charity Ball goes virtual this year!

The North West Breast Cancer Charity Ball 2020 committee has taken the decision to cancel the event. This annual highlight on the NW social calendar was due to take place at Silver Tassie Hotel on Friday, 27th November. The link is now live and you can donate here

The committee would like to express its gratitude to Ciaran and Rose Blaney and staff at the hotel for their understanding and support.

To the local businesses who have supported and sponsored this event year after year.  It is our hope that your loyalty to this important local charity will be repaid in these challenging times by customer loyalty and a commitment to spend locally.

The North West Breast Cancer Charity Ball is more than just an event – it is a community. Every year the same smiling faces coming through the doors, eager to support the ball. Those smiling faces this year…and the glitz and the glamour!  However, while Covid 19 has robbed us of many things, it has not robbed us of our commitment to the aims of the ball. We as a committee are intent on continuing to support ongoing research into breast cancer and its treatment.  Breast cancer has not gone away and those in our community living with a breast cancer diagnosis continue to need our support. While we are acutely aware that many people are struggling financially we believe that this year we have the opportunity to continue to build on the work we have begun even if only in a small way.  For these reasons, the committee has decided to launch an online fundraising campaign. Here are the links for anyone wishing to contribute to this important community event…

The sole item for auction at this year’s virtual Charity Ball is a once off laminated print of a 360 degree view of Glenveagh from the castle to Astillion Waterfall.  The piece is 8 foot by 2 foot and is from page 124, Donegal’s Atlantic Way by Michael Sugrue. If you would like to make a bid for this wonderful piece you can do so by sending an email to or by sending a private message to our Facebook page listed below.

Each year the ball raises vital funds for research, all of which is carried out locally at LUH .  The ball also provides funds for an outreach programme to survivors of breast cancer and supports a number of patient comfort items, including the pink gowns worn by patients and coffee and tea facilities for those attending Breast Centre North West and their families.  The committee would like to express its gratitude to friends of the ball who have supported this venture, including compere every year Noel Cunningham, Majella O Donnell, Áine Lawlor, Gabrielle’s Diary, Nikki Bradley and Andrea Gilligan. Our special celebrity guest for this year’s ball, Miriam O Callaghan, has also been in touch with good wishes.
