Love was in the air at the Central Hotel!

The Central Hotel was filled with love and memories of wedding days gone by at their Donegal Love Story event last night. Couples who were married in the hotel over the past 60 years were invited to enjoy an evening of celebration with friends and family.

Guests enjoyed a welcome arrival of summer punch followed by a Supper Banquet Buffet prepared by Executive Head Chef Louie Ouibi in the Grand Ballroom overlooking Donegal Bay.

Couples were invited to tell the story of their wedding day memories. It was common in the older days that weddings were in fact wedding breakfasts, after that brides and grooms had to leave their guests behind to party while they headed away for the night.

The Diamond Dancers performed followed by Mary B and her Band and from the first dance “May I have this dance for the rest of our lives” the floor was filled for the evening with prizes for Afternoon Tea, Dinner in Chapman’s Restaurant and an overnight stay in the Honeymoon Suite creating great excitement

All the brides and grooms attending received a Certificate as a keepsake to remember this celebration a first of its kind.

Evelyn McMarketing created Donegal Love Story as she herself was married in the Central Hotel 31 years ago this week. Evelyn and Elaine worked in conjunction to create a wonderful nostalgic evening.

Some very special occasions celebrating were Evelyn and James McGinley celebrating 52 years, Margaret and Seamus Barron were celebrating 53 years  while Sean and Kathleen O’Donnell were celebrating 53 years.

During the evening Paddy Bourke told the crowd that he has waited 40 years for this night as he did not get the opportunity to propose to Ann Marie the first time, Paddy and Ann Marie Bourke are celebrating 38 years of marriage this week and down onto one knee Paddy asked Ann Marie would she marry him! She accepted and the couple led the floor for the first dance

It was a pleasure to meet new General Manager David Begley and the Food & Beverage Manager Breda Bonner who both welcomed everyone to the ballroom. Assistant manager Caroline Friel welcomed guests on the red carpet as they arrived to the Central Hotel

Some of the memoirs included Wedding Photo Albums dating back to the 60’s, A wedding bell which was a gift given to brides in the 80’s by the Hyland Family in addition to Wedding Dresses, veils and jewellery.

Elaine McInaw wishes to thank Mrs Sharkey for assisting with the photos of the Hyland Family and the wedding history dating back to 1941 when Mr & Mrs Hyland celebrated their Wedding Day.

Special thanks to Ultimate Touches for the beautiful room décor as always, Cakes by Valerie for the lovely cake, Patricia Connelly and Evelyn McGlynn and to all the brides and grooms for sending their photographs and stories, it was an absolute honour to share in your memories.
