Edinburgh, great to be back again!

I am just back from a 2-night break in Edinburgh. I was there in November and decided to go back to this great city again this week but booked a different hotel. The flight out from City of Derry Airport with Ryanair only took about 35 minutes, no delays bang on time.

We took a taxi from Edinburgh airport dropping us the door of the hotel costing 22 pound and took about 25 minutes. I know you can take the tram or the bus for less, but with luggage and being just lazy the taxi was the choice for us!

I booked the Tiger Lily hotel on George’s Street right in the middle of all the shops. This hotel is simply gorgeous and has 33 bedrooms with the most comfortable beds and a large walk in shower. I definitely would recommend it.

There’s a high-end seafood restaurant and they also serve traditional afternoon tea. For the month of January they offer 50% off food. Other amenities include a plush bar with terrace seating, and a well decorated lounge with a cosy fireplace.

The one thing you notice as you come in the front door is the beautiful marble bar (the decor is class) which leads you through to the main bar and restaurant. The décor is bright, colourful and trendy with mirrored walls and chandeliers. The bar and lounge were buzzing and very busy for January. They are famous for their various cocktails with a wide choice available. The staff deserve a mention, very friendly and couldn’t do enough for their customers, obviously well trained.

Breakfast is served until 12 noon. The location is perfect beside all the shops which suited me!  Princess Street is the main shopping area and is just 5 minutes away.

We decided to take the train from Waverley (15 mins walk from the hotel) to Glasgow for the day, (took 45 minutes) booked on line the night before costing 26-pound return for 2. This was my first time to visit Glasgow, and it was not for me, wasn’t impressed

Edinburgh has much the same shops, is more compact, and easier to get around. Returned to Queen Street station to get the train back to Edinburgh after 5pm the tickets wouldn’t go through the machine, to be told it was peak time and we had to update them which cost another 26 pounds……a joke.

Edinburgh see you again…….and will definitely return to Tiger Lily Hotel. This is not sponsored and was all paid for, just my take on the 2 days away!
