Bernie Kelly officially opens Cill An Óir complex!

Cill An Óir complex, Killyclug was officially opened today after much expectation and anticipation by Bernie Kelly wife of the late Manus Kelly.

A huge crowd gathered at the complex for the opening. Managers and brothers Shaun and Paddy McGinley welcomed one and all along.

There was a bouncing castle for the children as well as face painting and complimentary cones from Rockets Ice cream.

Jim Barry and Derek Tuohy from the Costcutters Group were also present. Mayor John O Donnell and the Mayor of Kilmacrennan Susan Sheilds were there along with many politicians.

Highland Radio’s John Breslin was broadcasting live from the complex creating a great buzz.

Included in the complex is a brand new shop/ forecourt, state-of-the-art pub/restaurant and a number of retail units along with a barber shop.

The news is a major boost to the local economy providing much welcome employment in the retail/hospitality sector.

It also marks a substantial investment from the owners in the future of the town.

The proud new owners are hoping people from the surrounding areas will make it their local shop/pub of choice in the coming weeks and months.

For the past few months, tradesmen have been working round the clock, to bring the ambitious new development to fruition.

Local management are quietly confident they will gain the trust and support of customers by providing a high quality, value for money service across a range of areas.

The complex is 25,000sqft consisting of a state-of-the-art Costcutter retail store, an Applegreen forecourt, pub (Áthas), three retail units and a number of apartments.

The shop opened for business on May 23, after a nine months restoration-rebuilding project. It employs 20 full and part-time staff.

Costcutter Ireland and Applegreen are two of the leading suppliers to independent stores in the country.

They pride themselves on quality, affordable produce and giving customers a friendly, pleasant experience.

The name of the pub (formerly Ard na Ri) will be Áthas (meaning joy/happiness).

Áthas, is a modern pub/lounge and the new owners are quietly confident people from the surrounding areas will make it their ‘local’ of choice over the coming weeks and months.

Over the past few months tradesmen have been busy working round the clock transforming the premises.

Áthas, includes a comfortable bar/lounge, five top of the range TV’s, a state-of the-art sound/lighting system, ornate furnishings and a modern lounge/ function room on the second level.

Management are also in discussions with a number of interested parties to secure a fast food tenant and another retailer on the complex site in the very near future.
