It’s an exciting week ahead for 10 year old Andrea Slevin from Knock , Ballybofey after being selected as one of the Rose Buds for the upcoming Rose of Tralee Festival. Andrea is one of 64 Rose Buds which have been chosen following the selection process which took place earlier this year.
When Andrea and her mother Anna decided to put Andreas name forward in April they never dreamt that Andrea would be selected. “It’s like a dream come true. I am really looking forward to taking part in the parades and spending time with the Roses for the week. “says Andrea.
Andrea has been selected to accompany the Southern California Rose Ms Claire McManamon during the week of the festival. Claire is originally from Co. Mayo but working in Southern California as an accountant with Glambia.
The Rose Buds get to take part in the parade, they get to have their own exclusive party with the Roses, they get their own little sash with their name on it…and they really get the VIP treatment during the week of the festival.
The initiative was started back in 2009 “to look ahead to the future of the festival.
Andrea will be spending the week in Tralee with her parents Anna and Drew and her little sister Leona. While there they are also looking forward to seeing and meeting the Donegal Rose , Amy Kate Callaghan , and they wish her all the best in the competition.
We would like to congratulate Andrea and are delighted that she has this great opportunity to particulate in one of Irelands oldest and largest international festivals.
