It was a pleasure to feature Lough Eske castle, Donegal’s only 5 star hotel on my website.
There is something about this hotel that makes you want to return time and time again. I was greeted on arrival by Lisa Marshall Sales & Marketing Director who showed me what the Castle has to offer the guests. I got a tour of the fabulous bedrooms which have been recently refurbished, and the size of those beds, I just wanted to hibernate for a week.
The Father Brown Bar which opened last year has been a great addition to the hotel and is open 7 days a week with live music. Bar food is served from 4pm – 10pm daily.
The hotel hosted their Christmas party night on 13th December and I have to say it was a great night with almost 300 guests from all different businesses celebrating their night in 5 star style. Sinead McGowan, Sales & Events Manager hosted the event and it was a night to remember for all who attended.
Lough Eske Castle is steeped in history dating back to the O Donnell Ara. It is a story of being carved piece by piece from local stone carried by Clydesdale horses along specially constructed roadways. It is a tale of being won, lost, ruined and restored. Powerful 14th century clans of Donegal the O’Donnell’s had their seat here, wealthy landowners ruled from here and Edwardian glamour was played out. In 1861 the new Lough Eske Castle, as we know it today, was built on the site of the old Brooke Mansion. Always a place for entertaining international guests since 1861. The Castle remains full of warm Donegal hospitality today as it did over 150 years ago.
A long list of enviable and prestigious awards has been received by Lough Eske Castle Hotel throughout the years. Recent awards include being named Ireland’s Castle Wedding Venue of the Year 2020, Ulster Spa of the Year 2019 by Irish Tatler Magazine, Luxury Wellness Spa & Luxury Countryside Spa 2018 at the World Luxury Spa Awards, Conde Nast’s Top Ten Luxury Hotels 2018 and 2019 in Ireland, Ulster Wedding Venue of the Year 2018 and Luxury Hotel of the Year 2017.
A special mention to the Manager Donal Cox and his team who are all so welcoming and professional. I love to dine in the bar when I am over in the Castle. The bacon burger is my favourite!
If you are a wine lover the perfect event awaits you on Friday 7th February, the Castle will host their Wine Dinner where Head Chef Richard McKee is pairing a sumptuous six course dinner with the finest French wines, these wine dinners are always a sell out at €69 per person.
So if you haven’t been you should treat yourself to experience the ambience and comfort of this beautiful hotel that we are lucky to have in our beautiful County.
