‘Brush strokes’ for Anderson sisters Veronica & Bernie

This week I am featuring Artists Veronica (Maguire) and her sister Bernie Anderson from the Ballybofey, daughters of Peter and Cathy.

I have known the talented sisters for many years.

Veronica, originally a hairdresser picked up her paint brush in 2000 as a New Year’s resolution and fell in love with art and hasn’t looked back since.

She did various courses and joined her local art group trying out lots types of mediums, watercolour, oil, acrylics and oil was her preference until she started to use a new type of painting.  Alcohol inks they are very different to use and to control but give  different vibrant affects.  Her love of nature’s beauty inspired her the most.  She has to date 3 solo exhibitions having taken part in numerous group exhibitions including the Glebe gallery and online solo virtual exhibition at Hambly and Hambly gallery in Enniskillen. ‘ I have had the first solo alcohol ink exhibition in lreland in Letterkenny An Grianan theatre in 2018.  I’m also lucky to be resident artist in the Villa rose hotel Ballybofey for a year now where around 30 pieces of my artwork are on display in their restaurant and walkway gallery. I also have my artwork on display in the Quay west restaurant in Donegal Town and Beauty by Shana. I’m very thankful to have found art, it has been a great therapy and living in Donegal with its fantastic scenery all around me is inspiring. If you are interested in purchasing my artwork you can contact me through my Facebook page Veronica Maguire artist or Instagram @maguireveronica she said.

On the other hand her sister Bernie is also a Donegal Artist and a Community Mental Health nurse for the past 38 years.

Bernie aims to express herself through the use of intuitive colour and form and is influenced by the natural landscapes within her surroundings of Ballybofey and spends much of her time in beautiful Gweedore.  Her style would be described as semi abstract, romantic and spiritual. She aspires to convey feelings of hope, optimism and joy in her work.

She believes in the therapeutic effects of creativity using art regularly with her clients.

Having recently held a successful Facebook sale of four “Angel ” paintings with all proceeds going to Covid 19 charities.

Amongst being involved in many group exhibitions including the Glebe Gallery, and Hambley & Hambley  where she held her first virtual solo exhibition recently.  Bernie ran alcohol ink and watercolour workshops in the past, and hopes to continue where she left off after the Covid 19 pandemic.
